EZ ROOF CLEAN started out of necessity!  One morning my neighbor asked me "What are those ugly black streaks on your roof?"  I had noticed them and had thought they were nails or something caused during the application of the roof.  My home was  relatively new and well maintained.  I noticed that I didn’t have these stains on the south side of my home.  At first I didn’t think I could do anything about them. From that day forward these stains jumped out at me, and were really starting to bother me. I started driving around the neighborhood, and noticed other homes newer than mine also had these stains.

Shortly after noticing these streaks I was painting the side of the dormers on my home. To prepare the siding I had a small rag with a little bleach to scrub the siding in my back pocket. I finished both dormers, and in the next couple of weeks I noticed part of the black streaks had faded around my dormers.  It was right were my back pocket was while I was painting.  I got up on the ladder to inspect, and this area was clean and back to the original shingle color.

My engineering background led me to research the root cause of these stains.  What I found was these stains were caused by wind carried algae called Gloeocapsa Magma and that there was several safe, reliable roof cleaners on the market.  Although bleach or sodium hydroxide (lye) might work, I also learned these were not safe, would provide marginal results and might damage the shingle.  Power Washing or Brushing techniques I was also told would cause the asphalt granules to be loosened or removed from my shingles degrading my roof shingle performance, life and voiding my warranty.

I then figured I could find a local contractor and just have my roof cleaned using one of the safe products I found during my research.  To my surprise I was only able to find roof cleaners in Ohio, Florida, Texas and the closest was in NJ.  I was on my own.

I purchased several of these roof cleaning products and thoroughly tested all of them to find the best solution. During this process I also purchased and rented a wide variety of equipment to test and find the most effective equipment.

This Roof Stain problem was not isolated to my neighborhood.  Almost every other home in my neighborhood had the roof stain problem.  Homes from $300,000 to $1,000,000 and more were infected with the roof algae!  Now that I owned all the equipment and had fully tested many roof cleaning products I decided that a safe, reliable roof cleaner service was needed in the Massachusetts area.  I decided to create this business to help others remove these ugly stains, improve the appearance and increase property values of one’s home.
