The black roof streaks typically found on homes is roof
algae. The most common form of roof algae is Gloeocapsa Magma. Algae
spores are carried by the wind and birds, which is why so many houses in your
neighborhood can end up with roof stains. During the last 20 years, this
particular algae strain has become hardier and so has been able to migrate to
less humid environments than it has in the past. And in areas where it
traditionally has been found, the staining is showing up earlier, is more severe
and settles on a greater number of roofs.
Let us help your shingles before they are
decomposed by algae!
Roof algae
usually appears first on the North side of the home where shade and moisture is
prevalent. Once the algae attaches to the roof, it feeds on the limestone used
in the production of the shingle. If left untreated the algae will break down
the shingle by loosening the ceramic granules, which may shorten the life of the
roof, decrease the property value, and increase your cooling expenses
